The Space

Otoki in Colaba was such a special project for us. The brief was simple, create a Japanese-inspired space that feels warm, minimal, and intentional. We worked with a palette of wood, soft lighting, and clean lines, keeping every detail quiet but thoughtful. It’s a space that reminds us how holding back can sometimes create the most impact.

The Ask

A rebranding of the classic Indigo Delicatessen into a new Japanese cuisine restaurant – Otoki. The intent was to move away from the dark, woody interiors of the earlier space and introduce a sense of lightness and calm, inspired by the serene ambience of Japanese design—simple, minimal, and refined.

The Result

The 2,000-square-foot space was reimagined as a double-height restaurant with a mezzanine level. The ground floor features an open seating layout that leads to a private alcove for group dining on the left, and a sushi bar on the right where guests can watch the chefs at work. The mezzanine offers a different energy—an intimate, low-ceilinged area that comes alive with lively conversations. Since the vision was to avoid direct Japanese motifs, the furniture was kept understated and subtle, allowing a striking ceiling installation inspired by ginkgo leaves to become the focal point. Throughout the interiors, earthy tones and natural materials create a quiet homage to the Japanese philosophy of minimalism.

For each of the bedrooms, we had different concepts in mind. We used a lot of colours and textures which made the place come alive. We also incorporated a lot of plants that added subtle classiness to the space. In the end, we installed decorative lights all over which brought the whole place together.
