The Space

An old restaurant in Bandra West, with a defunct brewery up front and a 50-year old Punjabi eatery at the back.

The Ask

The client, a couple who had returned after studying at Le Cordon Bleu, Australia, wanted to create a neighbourhood watering hole that felt personal to its patrons. A cosy, familiar space where one could go at the end of their day, and unwind with a glass of wine.

The Result

To bring the client’s vision to life for this wine-themed restaurant, we took inspiration from the different shades of merlot; using it throughout the space as wall colour and also in the artwork - that were canvases on which we poured wine, later colourized and made into art. Since it was a really linear space, we created booths which actually looked like upturned glasses, to add depth and dimension to the place. With the right use of light through these glasses, we created shadows that look like the stems that appear when you swirl wine in a glass.

We used teal blue as the secondary accent colour to create a balance with the deep merlot and draw attention to the importance of water to wash down all that wine! To add another personalised layer, we made little boxes where, once you’ve uncorked a bottle, you could leave the corks as a memory of a good time at 266 The Wine Room. At the end, what we had on our hands was a special place that felt like your own.

This being our first restaurant project, the clients loved the personalised touches, and the project also won us quite a lot of national awards.
